District Foundation News

Your Foundation met for the second time this administrative year during the 2008 Carolinas District Midyear Conference in North Myrtle Beach, SC. As a result of the Executive Committee meeting and during the general session on Saturday, 11 grants were awarded. The programs receiving funding included a Young Children Priority One Health Fair, a child and family development center, Key Leader, Key Club, Circle K and several other initiatives focusing on young children. In the first half of this administrative year your generous support has enabled the Foundation to distribute over $20,000.00 in grants. Now while that is certainly good news, it gets even better. Due to an Executive Committee decision at the end of the 2006-07 year, budgeted grant monies not awarded were added to the 2007-08 budget. This means there is still another $25,000.00 available for worthy programs and initiatives. The Grants Section of this website has the latest forms for you to file on the behalf of your Kiwanis Club. The next meeting is the first part of May and your requests must be received 30 days prior to be considered.

The Foundation paid tribute to long time member and Past Foundation President, Henry Fishburne during the Midyear Conference. Also honored at the conference were District Meetings and Conventions Chair J. Scott Johnson and Immediate Past Governor Bill Yarborough. They were honored as the result of a donation by Kiwanian Jim Futrell. Many of us think of the Foundation as a place to send memorials, however you can chose to honor someone as well. The individual or family will receive a personalized card notifying them of your gift and the donor will receive an acknowledgement copy.

Your Foundation is hard at work on a new marketing brochure, making improvements to our portion of the District website, designing an appropriate recognition for the newly created CDKF 1200 Diamond level (we now have 2 members) and diligently managing the endowment.
