Correct Installation Check List

Parents often ask, "What are some of the common installation errors?" This section covers a lot of these errors, but before we get started maybe we should present a sample check list for a correct install. The check list is presented below:
Child seat recline set correctly for position.
Harness straps flat and not twisted.
Harness straps in correct slots and routed correctly in all slots.
Seatbelt routed through correct belt path in child safety seat.
Switchable Retractor - Retractor switched to automatic locking mode and secured tightly.
Emergency Retractor and Sliding Latch Plate - Locking clip or lockoffs used correctly.
Child seat installed tightly, no more than one inch movement side to side and front and back.
Tether strap if used, routed correctly, snug and attached to an authorized tether eye.
Latch Install
Seat belt latched and placed under seat.
Latch straps routed through correct belt path and are positioned on the correct sides of the seats.
Child does not exceed weight limits of a latch install. (Check manual if child exceeds 40lbs.)
Latch straps tightened correctly, child seat does not move more than one inch side to side and front back.
Child in Harness
Child positioned correctly in harness.
Rear facing - harness routed through slots at or below shoulders. Forward Facing - harness routed through slots at or above shoulders and harness installed over reinforcement bar if applicable.
Both harness straps buckled.
Harness straps snug, unable to pinch strap at shoulder.
Harness Clip threaded correctly and at armpit level.
If Tray Shield or Tee Shield - shield contacts or touches childs chest.
Booster Seat
Lap belt over lower hip and/or upper thighs.
Shoulder belt over center of shoulder and center of chest and not touching child's neck.
If shoulder strap routed through clip, does belt slide freely in both directions.
