Forward Facing Convertible

Next, in forward facing position, the harness straps need to be at or above the shoulders of the child. So some adjustments must be made. On the conventional convertible seat, the top strap slots have a reinforcement bar just below the top slots to handle the extra forces of a front end collision.

There have been cases where the straps were not moved over the reinforcement bar, and the back of the seat gave way in a forward collision. The child was killed. So typically the harness straps must be removed and reinstalled through the upper slots and over this reinforcement bar shown on this seat.
